HDPE liner is the same material whether you're building an ornamental estate lake or a hydrocarbon containment basin for an oil field. The difference is in the specification — liner thickness, chemical resistance grade, welding standards, and engineering requirements. Dream Lakes builds both.
Why the Oil Sector Uses HDPE
In Kuwait's oil and gas industry, secondary containment is not optional. KOC, KNPC, and international operators working Kuwaiti fields all require containment infrastructure around storage tanks, wellheads, processing equipment, and pipelines. The purpose: if a spill or leak occurs, contaminated liquid is captured and doesn't reach the soil or groundwater.
HDPE is the international standard for this application for the same reasons it works for water storage — it simply doesn't fail the way other materials do:
Chemical resistance
HDPE is resistant to crude oil, refined products, drilling fluids, brine, and most chemicals encountered in oil field operations. It doesn't absorb hydrocarbons, doesn't swell, doesn't degrade.
Full impermeability
A properly welded HDPE liner has zero seepage. This is the critical requirement for containment — any leak defeats the purpose.
Extreme temperature tolerance
Kuwait's oil fields operate in some of the highest ambient temperatures in the world. HDPE maintains its properties from below freezing to well above 60°C surface temperatures.
Fast deployment
Containment infrastructure often needs to be in place quickly. HDPE installations are measured in weeks, not months.
Types of Industrial Containment We Build
-
Secondary containment berms
Around storage tanks and equipment yards, to capture spills before they reach unprotected soil. Meets international secondary containment requirements.
-
Evaporation ponds
For produced water, brine, and other fluids that need to be isolated and reduced through evaporation. Fully impermeable — zero leachate to surrounding soil or groundwater.
-
Hydrocarbon remediation basins
Lined pits for contaminated soil and water treatment, used in spill remediation and site cleanup. Installed quickly to support active remediation timelines.
-
Drilling waste pits
Temporary or permanent lined pits for cuttings and mud disposal at well sites.
-
Stormwater containment
On industrial sites where runoff may carry hydrocarbons or chemicals into unprotected areas.
The Same Technology, Applied to Water
HDPE's properties that make it ideal for oil containment make it equally ideal for potable and irrigation water storage — just in the opposite direction. Instead of keeping hydrocarbons in, it keeps water in.
Oil containment
Impermeable barrier keeps hydrocarbons from reaching the soil and groundwater. Chemically resistant. Zero seepage — that's the engineering requirement.
Water storage
Impermeable barrier keeps water from seeping into the ground. Chemically inert. Zero seepage — same material, same performance, opposite direction.
Kuwait faces a fundamental water scarcity reality. Every liter lost to seepage in an unlined reservoir is a liter that had to be trucked in, desalinated, or pumped at cost. HDPE-lined water reservoirs — for farms, private estates, municipalities, or industrial facilities — eliminate that loss entirely.
The same liner that contains a spill on an oil field contains water on a farm. The engineering is the same. The guarantee is the same.
Working with the Oil Sector
Procurement for oil sector projects in Kuwait runs through formal vendor approval processes with KOC, KNPC, and other operators. Dream Lakes is positioned to support these projects — our installation teams are experienced, our quality documentation is in order, and our work meets international liner installation standards.
If you're a contractor, engineer, or procurement officer looking for a qualified HDPE lining contractor for a containment project in Kuwait, we're the conversation to have.
